With the Celtics sitting at a 25-9 record for the second seed in the Eastern Conference, the young team has been showing flashes of what their true potential could be. Just one example of this, is the play of 23 year old Jaylen Brown. Entering this year, Brown knew he had to prove himself. This was going to be the year where he took a leap. He has exceeded and improved his numbers acrossed the board.
After being drafted with the 3rd pick in 2017, Brown had averages below expectation his first 3 years. Now, in his fourth year in the league, he has excelled greatly. He has averaged 20.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in just 30 games played. He is shooting 51.1% from the field and 39.5% from deep. This play could not have come at a better time. This was a contract year for him. Because of his performance so far this year, he inked a 4 year, $115 million dollar deal.
The Celtics are 7th in offensive rating this year with 111.2. They are 3rd in defensive rating with a 103.8 rating. Jaylen Brown has been a huge part of this. The Celtics are one of the top teams in the league, and they also have some of the most potential in the league. Jaylen Brown is fighting for an all-star spot as well. This would mark his 1st ever all star appearance. And with performances like this, I would not be surprised to see him this February.
